AI Chatbot Users: Who Are the People Behind the Prompts?
“Know your user” is one of the most repeated phrases in product development, but what does it really mean when it comes to chatbot apps? To find out, the ChatOn team conducted extensive research on our AI chatbot users. We aimed to answer several key questions: What do people ask AI? Why do they ask it? Which ready prompts do they use most often? How can we further boost AI user experience?
The image below shows some of our findings:

Beyond analyzing metrics and app activity, we interviewed real users on the other side of the chat window—tired, curious, stressed, inspired, or just trying to get through the day. This research gave us a deeper understanding of who our users are, what matters to them, and how we can make ChatOn fit even better into their daily lives.
As we step into 2026, we’re excited to share the most important insights—and the 6 main types of AI chatbot users we identified.
1. Students and Early-Career Professionals
“Help me keep up.”
For AI chatbot users of this type, life moves fast—sometimes too fast. There are classes to pass, jobs to manage, deadlines piling up, and the constant pressure to stay socially and professionally “on track.”

What they use AI for:
- Rewriting emails, essays, and academic papers
- Help with studying, explanations, and exam prep
- Advice on work, school, and planning for the future
What they really need:
What they really want isn’t just answers. For a lot of students and young professionals, AI becomes part tutor, part quiet cheerleader, someone always available and never annoyed. While their primary requests are about practical help, they also frequently turn to AI for reassurance and a bit of breathing room when things get overwhelming.
2. Office Workers and Entrepreneurs
“Make my workday easier.”
These AI chatbot users turn to AI for personal productivity and business needs. Most of them want help streamlining their day, getting more done in less time, and maintaining a polished, competent edge. Many are also looking for smarter solutions in their field to stay ahead of the competition.

What they use AI for:
- Drafting or refining business emails, reports, and schedules
- Responding to complaints, reviews, or work messages
- Advice on career decisions and workplace challenges
- Initial support with financial or legal questions
What they really need:
Their true underlying demand is to lighten their mental load. With constant pressures and multiple responsibilities, one of the biggest benefits of AI for users is that they can delegate routine thinking wherever possible—planning trips, organizing tasks, creating templates, or simply helping them make decisions faster with fewer doubts.
3. Social Media Users and Content Creators
“Make my content pop!”
This group of AI chatbot users includes anyone active on social media. While there’s a clear distinction between casual fans and professional creators, the line is easy to cross, and actively adopting AI plays a big role in that. Someone looking for quick hashtags today might be turning to AI for a full content strategy tomorrow.

What they use AI for:
- Generating ideas for posts, captions, and hashtags
- Writing personalized messages to friends and followers
- Creating video scripts, storyboards, or short-form content
- Drafting creative campaigns aligned with their chosen voice and strategy
What they really need:
Social media can feel relentless, with constant pressure to post fresh content and keep engagement high. What starts as creativity can quickly become tedious work—and this is where AI steps in. Content creators need a tool that helps them brainstorm faster, explore new ideas, and uncover unexpected angles. With the support of AI, they can stay original, inspired, and in control—without burning out along the way.
4. People Who Care About Health
“Help me understand if this is serious.”
This group of AI chatbot users includes adults of all ages, with a large portion of requests coming from parents, elderly people, and even pet owners. These people worry about the wellbeing of themselves and their loved ones—human or furry.

What they use AI for:
- Quick explanations of symptoms and possible causes
- Advice on safe first steps before seeing a doctor
- Guidance on lab results
- Questions about pregnancy and childcare
- Tips on diets, weight management, and healthy lifestyle choices
What they really need:
Rather than an exact diagnosis or treatment, these users want direction and peace of mind. They turn to AI because it’s fast and accessible when anxiety hits at midnight or when seeing a doctor right away isn’t possible. What they truly want is a calm voice of reason and answers to those worrying questions: Is this urgent? What should I do next? What should I ask the doctor? ChatOn clearly reminds users it’s not a substitute for professional medical advice, but it helps them feel more informed and in control.
5. Everyone Who Seeks (or Needs to Provide) Emotional Support
“Send me a little encouragement.”
What started as one of the unusual AI chatbot use cases has grown into one of the biggest trends. People are increasingly turning to AI for reassurance and support—either for themselves or for someone they care about. When someone’s feeling down, even a small encouraging message can make a real difference.

What they use AI for:
- Motivational or encouraging messages, often with playful emojis
- Warm good morning or good night greetings
- Words of support during stressful moments
- Wishes for success, luck, or a positive day
What they really need:
A few kind words can lift the spirits of someone dealing with stress, fatigue, or waning motivation. But beyond words, these AI chatbot users want a feeling of connection and a moment of relief from stress. The reason they turn to AI for encouragement is that it’s always there, ready to brighten a tough moment and offer a safe first step toward mental wellbeing.
6. Anyone Navigating Everyday Life
“How should I handle this?”
Not every AI request is about work, study, or big life decisions. A huge number of requests lie beyond the most common AI prompts—they are coming from people looking for help with life’s little things.

What they use AI for:
- Advice on social situations or tricky conversations
- Tips for relationships and communication
- Help handling small personal dilemmas
- Simple everyday guidance like how to clean a stain or water a plant properly
What they really need:
These AI chatbot users aren’t necessarily looking for deep expertise—they want clarity and a sense that they’re not facing things alone. A calm, friendly explanation or a bit of thoughtful advice can make life’s small challenges feel easier. From deciding what to say in an awkward moment to figuring out how to fix something at home, from tackling a small bad habit to planning a thoughtful apology, every question matters, and ChatOn is ready to help with them all.
One User, Many Roles
What’s the biggest takeaway? A single user isn’t just “a student” or “a content creator”—most people combine multiple roles and turn to AI for different tasks depending on the current context. One person can ask AI to be a health guide in the morning, a productivity coach by midday, a career assistant in the afternoon, and a creative partner or cheerleader by evening.
The deeper insight is that people don’t just use AI to get things done faster or more efficiently. They use it to feel more capable, supported, and understood. As AI continues to evolve, its true value may depend less on raw intelligence and more on how seamlessly it fits into the small, meaningful moments of daily life.
